Prescription Drugs & The US Workforce

Prescription Drugs and the US Workforce

Chronic pain is exceedingly expensive in the United States. Opioids are one of the

most commonly prescribed drugs for chronic pain management, and their abuse

and addiction have been a source of worry. Opioids are commonly overused and

have a negative influence on the American workforce, according to research.

Employers in the United States are concerned about prescription drug abuse,

particularly the usage of opioid analgesics. Seven out of ten employers say their

use has impacted them in some way. While the health consequences of

prescription medication usage and abuse are obvious, employers are less likely to

realize the financial consequences. Employers frequently admit to being

unprepared to cope with employee prescription drug misuse and abuse.

The goal of this study was to collect information on US employers' concerns and

priorities, as well as their perceptions of prescription drug abuse, the impact of

prescription drug use on the workplace, drug abuse detection and response,

perceived ability to handle prescription drug abuse in the workplace, and

workplace initiatives, such as employee assistance programs, drug testing, and

workplace policies.

A unique questionnaire was used to perform the study. Participants were

chosen from a pool of verified panelists by Research Now, and fieldwork was

conducted by B2B International entirely online. This research is based on 501

interviews with employers in the United States with 50 or more employees. Not

only in terms of size and sector, but also in terms of area and

centralization, the employers sampled are quite diverse.
