Virtual Teams: Team Empowerment, Process Improvement, Team Member Satisfaction, and Customer Satisfaction
This article is based on the study conducted on virtual teams in Turkey. The research aimed to focus on interactions of team empowerment, process improvement, team member satisfaction, and customer satisfaction. The article begins by discussing certain factors that influence teamwork, such as an organization’s function and nature, as well as the structure and environment. The article discusses factors that can cause change in traditional teams and virtual teams. New technologies and practices have brought virtual teams to life.

The internet allows the appropriate substructure and interdependence needed to communicate and collaborate with others to reach a common goal. The flexibility offered when working in a virtual team allows all members to overcome cultural and geographical boundaries to an extent. The article then discusses the differences in a virtual team and a co-located team and the team processes used by each. Team processes focused on by each type of team include processes which allow all team members to gain meaningfulness. When team members experience meaningfulness within themselves, this leads to persistency, motivation, and positive performances.
The study conducted focuses on aspects such as the virtual delegating process, synchronous and asynchronous practices, and how to maintain effective communication when you work with a team virtually, rather than face-to-face. The article brings to light the importance of welcoming diversity and ways to establish trust in a virtual environment. During the study, researchers also focused on the importance of human resources for virtual teams and how training and development opportunities must remain a priority as though in a face-to-face environment.

The importance of team empowerment is also discussed within the article. Team empowerment is crucial for success but can be difficult to maintain due to the unique conditions when working with a virtual team. The article also focuses on the fact that each activity in which input is converted to output constitutes the team improvement process. The article concludes with a context overview of all information gathered during the research on virtual teams and the factors that play a part in the in the processes and practices used.
